Little bagette

Well, this is surely a first for me. I painted the flower and printed it on cotton fabric for ink jet by Jacquard. It works really well and only fades out a bit. But I decided to punch up the colors on the printed fabric with very concentrated liquid watercolors. Then I stitched around the flower and stitched it onto the upholstery fabric. I think I could have actually at this point sewed it onto the bag ( bought from Hobby Lobby) but I glued it. I couldn't quite figure out how to do that and I liked the frayed edges so I guess the sewing would only be functional rather than decorative.  Anyway, it was fun and new for me. Oh also, I used a script stamp in the original watercolor background and I found out that if you use a chalk ink pad it makes a more dreamy-like image and not so sharp as with the pigment or dye ink pads. I never have liked those chalk ink pads until now! Thanks goodness because I have quite a few of them.

Oh Martha I love this!!

Thanks for the comments you left on my blog. I really do want to learn calligraphy, have for a long time, so I think I will be taking your class and try not to expect to be perfect!!! and practice, practice, practice. Oh, most people liked the painting in the second direction, which is the direction that I painted it.

That is SO cute!! You could have easily scrunched the bag in your machine after pinning the flower on well first and stitched a straight stitch a bit in from the edge and that would have worked also.

Mary-I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I have been following your blog for a bit and do enjoy your posts.

If you have trouble with that ink from the printer fading a bit you could always spray it with some fixative before you get going.

Great idea with the bag-it would surely be handy not to have to make the bag and just proceed to the good stuff!

Hi Martha, I've been enjoying seeing all your wonderful calligraphy. This bag is adorable. And just FYI, if you wanted to sew the flower to the bag, you would have to either take out a seam in the bag or sew it on free motion - I don't think you could use the feed dogs and turn the bag with it together as a bag. I have a Bernina too, and I'm a quilter, so I'd be happy to answer any questions if I can. Which model of Bernina did you get?

Love your cute little bag!!! Maybe you could turn the bag inside out, and then stitch inside the bag??? Don't know, but it sure turned out darling. It is always nice to try different things and play!!! I am playing garden/Farmers' market lady today. It is HOT outside!!! Going to take the veggies to the ladies at the assisted living housing today. They love the fresh veggies and they are so fun to visit with!!! Off to wash veggies.....oh, FUN!!!
