BIG Piece and a Poppy

My goal is to GO BIG! This is actually a fairly cheap canvas 24 x 36 on sale for 30% off at Hobby Lobby so I felt relatively safe to try something large. I used my spray paints and stencils and then took it inside and stared at it to see what it needed. Big is definitely a challenge and this is really not all that big. it is tiring to go larger because it involves moving around in all sorts of contorted positions to get the lettering and embellishments. I painted the sides black. I am still think about the "Art -rageous" show coming up so maybe I will put this in. I have to stare at it some more. And below is another Poppy.
This Poppy run is more of a Poppy explosion. These Poppies got a bit jumbled up in the excitement of my dash for the paints and I got a bit over-exuberant. I got some new Twinrocker 6x8 paper (yummy yummy!!!) so I am practicing to see if I can get up my courage to do some originals on this paper. I usually get the paper out and the sheet stares at me with those big blank white eyes and I start to do an "art start freak out". Ever had one of those? What is it about blank paper (with the most fabulous deckled edges you ever saw) that freaks me out? Oh yeah, I might mess it up! Well, anyway as Joyce Meyers always says, "Just do it afraid!"
So, we'll see if I can do it. If I don't get up the courage to use the paper then I have wasted it anyway so....go figure!!??

The canvas is absolutely gorgeous already. Can't wait to see what you add!

And yes, I am having an "art freak out" right now about the package of paperclay I purchased, oh probably two weeks ago now.
I'm scared. :)

Fear of messing up a beautiful canvas or watercolour paper, you're talking my language. And like Joyce M. I've had to just go ahead and start trusting I can fix whatever I might mess up! What a fab canvas though, I've not had the opportunity to try spray painting yet and in time would love to get a better handle on the beautiful lettering you do. Down the line I hope to take your workshop.

Don't ever fear going big. If you don't like the finished piece, cover it with gesso and you have a wonderful layer under the next painting. I cannot tell you how many paintings under paintings I have. :) Love this Martha!!

And of course your poppies are the best!!!

yes, i don't think i've met an artist who doesn't have this' art freak out because it's a new white sheet of paper' or new journal sort of moment!

it's part and parr i suppose...but i think that i am past with that stage now...and you def. should be too...your work is terrific..and you have the talent and ability to pull the drawing around to make it look great in the end....

and besides...even if our finished product doesn't look like we'd hoped or planned it would, it is still a work of art that holds it's own!

so , paint away....!!! you rock!

ciao bella
come see what I'm watercolouring today!

Are your ears burning, Martha? I drive through town and see people's Poppies in full, gorgeous bloom right now, and I say, "Oh, Martha would love these!" and "Martha, these are for you!" and "I should photograph these and show them to Martha!" ♥K

"If I don't get up the courage to use the paper then I have wasted it anyway so....go figure!!??" Love this line! I'm going to remember this when I'm "scared" to use my "good stuff" for fear of wasting it or messing it up. Yes!

Love the canvas and poppies :o)
