36 x 36 Progression

Below is a start of a painting with the thinking that some of this texture and colors of the paper might show through. Oh how things change!

I have added the Wood Icing Texture on the pot and added my darks for the background leaves.  Again--Oh how things change!

I was first thinking blue for the background then I didn't think I liked it so...

I changed the background. But then something bothered me about this. Still I didn't
know about what colors the flowers would be.
Before I show you the final one... after this phase came a very very ugly phase.  I couldn't bring myself to take pictures of it. It was so ugly that the whole background almost had to be repainted. Surprisingly I didn't hyperventilate or slash the canvas with my utility knife. I did mutter a few choice French words then I repainted the background and started over a few steps back. It was truly the "agony and the ecstasy". (Please disregard any personal reference that I might be anything like Michelangelo!) :)

Martha you are a hoot! I love watching your process. It makes me feel as though maybe there is hope! Your work is inspiring and so genuine. I have become obsessed with pears and am thoroughly enjoying learning through my mistakes AND my successes. I really learn so much from your classes. Please do another.

Martha, paintings are like kids sometimes, we marvel and sometimes are dismayed with their progress all the time understanding they grow from our nurture as we apply each loving stroke and then all of a sudden they blossom and we forget about the angst and just love the outcome. Beautiful piece, hugs

Love how this is looking, Martha. The layers and the little glimpses through to the background are so very appealing. Can't wait to see the flowers.

What! I feel like I just watched a good drama, was ready for the nice ending...drinking my coffee and..... although the last pic is a beauty..you are holding out on us! Maybe not a smart move when a woman has not even finished her first cup of java in the am. :-)
Love the process...love the layers. You are a painting mojo maker!

Love watching the process - know how you feel - sometimes I get to a point and think - this painting needs to be buried under a ton of dirt!! That's when I need to walk away and come back with new eyes!! Love your work so far - I love peekaboo layers!!

You made me laugh when you came to the very, very UGLY phase,,,I know that phase...I think we all know that phase...I had one myself today ...watercolor paper so it got torn up...easier than slashing a canvas:)
i am looking forward to seeing where you take this...it has been fun so far.

Like everyone else, I really enjoy how you show your steps and how a painting evolves. I still struggle with covering up layers and layers, thinking I have to leave pieces or most of it showing. Yet every painting I see where the steps are broken out is filled with painted over areas - I MUST loosen up about this.....starting today! :) Your finished one is just lovely and I like how bits of the blue flowers show through.
