A Very Great Lady and Noble Princess on a Tattered Old Book Cover

I really enjoyed creating this and I think it is because it is something new that I tried. The girl's face is an original painting but I pasted her on and added some stamps to the background of the tattered black book cover. Her dress is collaged and I painted the collar. I went on a tattered book hunt and decided that I would not pay more than $5 for any tattered book. Surprisingly, sometimes the more tattered the more expensive the book is because it is old. But I did find some interesting tattered covers that I hope to incorporate some paintings on them. I actually won't use the ribbon when my antique brass chain comes in. Then I will swap it out. I found the text out of one of the old books. She is 5 x 71/2.

Hi Martha!!! I am home with a cold today...I saw your post...it's so cute!! I wanted to ask you, have you tried gluing a watercolor painting to a canvas? Does that work? I am thinking about entering the fine arts festival/show in Jax on April 25. I wouldn't know where to find a display to rent and I need to think about how to display my art....I have so many different directions/styles and I don't know if it might be better to choose just one for a show...beachy, flowers, acrylic, watercolor, or mixed media? What do you think?

Oh Martha, This is just gorgeous, and I love the ribbon. It goes well with the overall feel, the gold trim in the ribbon and the gold crown. Very nice indeed.
I too have found the more torn up something is the more it costs, never could understand that until recently. I love what you did with this book cover and look forward to seeing what else you will come up with.
