A little Sunflower

I have had paint withdrawal so I had to run and paint a flower. I actually painted this one in acrylic because although the oil paint is so absolutely wonderful--it is a bit of an ordeal for a quick painting. I am not sure if I have the patience for oil paint although I love it. I am done with my 6 week class and enjoyed it so much. I learned a lot and learned that I have a long way to go if I want to learn to paint realistically. The $64,000 question is...do I really want to do that...paint realistically?? Well, I will have to think on that one. I will post my black and white egg on the next post. It is the other value study that I did--by the hardest.

Gotta have that painting fix, friend!

Just took an oil painting workshop in abstracts, so I understand the questions...

wonderful colors as always!!
that is a good question to ask. i think i am realizing i do not like perfection, and i like messy - that does not work very well with "realistic" painting!! although realistic life is messy!!!! :)

Oh, Martha, I love your sunflower. A dear friend just passed away two weeks ago and Fields of Sunflowers were the cover of her Memorial Service Bulletin with a pictue of her and a Sunflower on the inside. They lived in Kansas the "Sunflower State" I just love the thickness of the paint and the whole thing. Great job

I'm loving your sunflower, colours are rich with your special touch. Painting realistically I'm seeing takes a very precise, patient approach, one I'd never be able to pull off, but appreciate the ability in others. Good on you for giving something new and so challenging a go and good luck figuring out if it's a good fit for you :-)

Beautiful Sunflower. Realistic vs Whimsical...realistic tends to have to many rules for me. :)

I love your art the way it is. I tend to think I want realism but I always enjoy the ones that are in the middle more. This is "realistic" in that it looks 3-D and is a recognizable flower in a pot but it's not photo-realism and my take on that is if you want it really realistic, take a photo! Your art feels alive and fun sharing emotions and that is what I like in art.

I love your sunflower, so cheerful. I painted a sunflower with help from my son in the first instance, his hands work well as petal basis then i just built it up with some help from my hands and more paint and i recycled a plate to paint it on :)
