MEDITATING
This is painted with oil and it is 12 x 24. It is one of the largest paintings I have ever done. I know it is the largest in oil. I used the water mixable oils which might have been a bit easier since you mix with water . It can be watered down like acrylics but I really haven't gotten the hand of blending or layering colors. Anyway, it was fun. I even used rubber stamps for her dress and the background and that works really well. I will try and do more larger pieces. Friday, November 7, 2008
HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS

I am trying to use all of my supplies! This background is Adirondack Color wash spray which is a product that I really like. The colors are intense and it sprays a fine mist. I sprayed the canvas with water then sprayed several colors of the color wash---then Saran wrap. I had to put workable fixative because the color wash will move when rewetted. I am not sure if this will give a close up because I right clicked from my Flikr account to insert this picture.

ANGELS UNAWARES

Again, all these paintings were inspired by the book, "Taking Flight" by Kelly Rae Roberts but I am not referring to the book anymore and hopefully moving toward my own look with these paintings. My faces are very different from hers but the overall look is similar. I highly recommend the book if you want to learn to do some really great collages and portraits faces.

ENTERTAIN ANGELS

I started this collage last night and worked on it all morning. So I guess one of these takes about 5 or 6 hours to do. But it is fun and I definitely breath easier when her face emerges. I never know what she will look like. This angel looks a bit sad but I am sure some angels are looking at us and they probably are a bit sad sometimes. I tried to "Happy" her up but she just didn't want to.
I will be out of town until Sunday so I won't get to post anything until Monday--or if I am really productive after my trip, Sunday. I have tons of stuff---I can always pull from the stash of artwork. Actually I do like to do that from time to time and give some of these pieces a new life.
All of these portraits paintings that I do are inspired by KellyRae Robert's book, "Taking Flight."

"ANGELS UNAWARES"
I wrote this layout of Roman letters many years ago in a Master Calligraphy class. Again, I used PhotoShop to combine the background and the lettering that I have saved as a file on my computer.
The Roman letters are difficult to write with the corrrect spacing, pressure and consistency but this was a successful layout and the letters were pretty good.
I love this Scripture and used it a lot.
Makes you wonder doesn't it???
