I have always been very drawn to abstract art but some abstract art is hideous (to me) but some is very pleasing to my eye. So with that being said, from time to time I delve (again) into the abstract area and try my hand. This one is on a 10x10 piece of 300 lb Fabriano paper. It's ok but I am still going to try to be a bit less busy. I guess I don't need to throw everything plus the kitchen sink into every piece. But I will say that I did enjoy painting it and watching it change and go in different directions. The focal point is guilded with 22 Karat patent gold leaf. So easy to do.
So, the question is, which way does it go? This way...
Or this way...
Hummm..I really don't have a clue. I painted it turned the top way but turned it all around when I painted. I guess it can go anyway.

This gives me a "patchworky" feel which of course appeals to me! I find it most pleasing with the blue in the upper left corner as in the first photo on your post. Maybe has to do with the "weight" of the colors, but the large area of red below it anchors it, and the blue seems light-weight in comparison. So that's my two cents.
I love this and definitely go with the top picture--just beautiful!
love it, martha.....i like the top one....it reminds me of a street scene...
Jeepers Martha...this is good. The colors caught my eye on the dash right away. I have had gold leaf paint for two months now and have been lost as to what to do with it. You have inspired me to get it out and use it.
Very fun! It is evident that you are happy when you create!
Martha, this is wonderful! I think it looks good in all directions and the 'busyness' is just good energy. Of course I love the colors, too. Happy weekend!

I love the top one = )
I love the colors you used - very fresh looking.
Very kewl!
I love this Martha. I like the first image best. It looks like houses at the top, gardens below and a white tree in the middle. :)
I really like it. I think my favorite direction for hanging it would be your second choice.
What a great piece! I love the colors and layers. To me I'm drawn most to the image at the top of the post, it just feels right to me.
