It starts like this...

I hope everyone had a wonderful July 4th weekend. I was thinking about doing a better evolution of this spread and I actually tried but my little camera at home just doesn't do as well as this one at the studio. I really enjoy drawing the faces in the journal because as I have said before each one is a surprise and different from the others. Most of them look like they could be sister or cousins. I use my copic markers for the face and I have to double up the pages because copics go through the paper. They are wonderful for faces though because it's fast and fairly fool proof if you use the right colors.
Also, here is my newest favorite teacher, Robert Burridge.  I bought one of his DVDs recently and he is funny and entertaining and I love the way he paints.
Here is his motto, "Paint what you know...teach what you have learned...love what you do."
So simple and so true for me.

For the Copic bleed through instead of doubling up paper you could try tucking a piece of chipboard in between. I use the back of old legal pads because they are just wide enough.

Yay...glad to see the way you build a spread! Since your faces are done with markers, you aren't using absorbent grounds under them, right?

You've been so busy creating that it's taking me awhile to check out all your new works!

Martha,
I love your big journal and the fact that it is gridded. What kind is it and where do you get it? I am assuming it is a fairly light weight paper and that you can't water color on it? Thanks.

Martha I just love your pages. Thank for sharing the beginning page as it shows a few of your steps and I like that. Your pages are always so full and wonderful. They are a great way to do a calendar. I love using my copics too but you do have to double up on the paper, and I use them so much that I go through ink like crazy.
Hugs and many blessings to you.

I absolutely love your blog and your beautiful work! I have the same question as Kay's-are able to watercolor in your journal, or do you use markers. You've inspired me to start one myself.

I just started piddling around with watercolor, and am taking your Drop Color Flowers workshop. Love it!

Your art journal is beautiful! Could I ask which DVD you ordered from Robert? I looked and he has several. I like his style. Thanks for linking to him.

My goodness, I thought you were going to chip in with some decisive insight at the end there, and you did not leave it with just furniture.
