Thy Word

I love this Scripture form Psalm 119.  I am really enjoying journaling in this "journaling Bible" with the wide margins.  The journaling does take quite a while to figure and lay out how all the letterforms will work together. Trial and error for sure.

Scripture Beads Giveaway!

I have been busy making Scripture beads and in honor of opening back up my Etsy shop I thought I would give away a necklace. They range from 161/2 inches to 18 inches so if you will just give me the size you want (if you win) and if you want you little dog tag to say, "hope", "destiny", "faith", "believe" or "Love" and I will stick it on the necklace for you. The colorful Scripture beads are made from sticky back canvas and I have printed Psalm 91, the Psalm of protection, on the canvas. Also there are beads made from an old Bible on the necklace also. I think I will sell these in bunches of three since it looks so chunky and wonderful that way but I think I will also offer them as singles also. I will do Random.org on Monday night at 8:00 pm EST sharp! Just leave a comment. Thanks!!!!! oxox

Transform

This page spread has a little pouch in the left corner that I made with a large tag which is covering up some crummy writing. Basically I start several page spreads at once by putting a watercolor wash or acrylic, add some stamps or start buiding a collage border then move on. Then I build the pages by "problem solving" and seeing what the page needs. Sometimes I solve the problems and sometimes not. But never the less, one way or another they come together. I really don't know what to write sometimes so I like to copy Scripture from the Bible when I don't have words. You really meditate on it when you are writing it down.
I wish my pages were more Christmasey seasonal. Maybe next year I will try to do the 12 days of Christmas and make it more festive.

Calligra-FUN Workshop Example

Here is another example of the calligra-FUN lettering you will learn in my workshop that starts July 22nd. You can learn to do this! I take you through all the steps.  Calligraphy is a series of strokes of your pen (marker) and when you practice these strokes it will become second nature. But you do have to practice. But with this lettering--practice is FUN...it's Calligra-FUN!!!

Rainbow Row in Charleston, SC

Absolutely one of the most favorite places on earth for me is Charleston, SC.  There is just something about that low country attitude and accent that just get inside and you just can't get rid of it. After several of us Converse girls failed our freshman language requirement (oops--!speaking another language was not our priority at that time in our lives) we took a make up class at the Citadel that summer. I just can't describe to you what it felt like to be the only girl in a Spanish class of 15 cadets. My other 4 friends were in the French class. I also made an A but I earned that A by studying---really--I did!! But those Charleston days were magical. I made friends who are some of best friends still today.

Rainbow Row in Charleston is historic I am sure and charming of course but when you get there you always say---ok,so  is this it?--this is rainbow row?? It's not as colorful as one would think but in the painting above I punched up the color a bit because I am sure at some point the colors were brighter. Well, in my mind they were anyway...
...In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina...

Paste Paper Bookmark--Lost but now Found

Since I have been home from helping our daughter with the new baby I haven't felt much like creating anything even though the itch is coming back to create some new things. So instead I have been organizing, cleaning out and going through some of the mounds of artwork and discarded artwork all jumbled up together stuffed in drawers. Sometimes I find a little special gem (gem is in the eye of the beholder!) hidden amongst all the mounds and I go--"oh, yeah, I remember doing that!" Well, this is a little paste paper hand-lettered bookmark that I probably didn't think much of when I did it but since I found it and liked it-- I thought I would blog it . Of course the Scripture is one of my favorites and is something that I pray for often (for me!)

New Poster coming out soon

I creared this design 5 or 6 years ago. I have some posters and "Pass It On" cards with a company called Universal Designs who sells to Christian book stores and Bible outlets. I have some posters still in print and some other designs and it's really fun to stop at the Bible outlets when traveling and go in one and see my posters. But I haven't had anything new with them and quite a while although I have been sending them art. Out of the blue after several years they called and wanted to used this design for a large poster. I actually couldn't even remember the design--she had to take a picture of it so I could know what it was. I actually created this on white paper but their art department wanted to put it on a turquoise background and they always ask for approval. So here is the new large poster with Universal Designs to be coming out soon. My art has changed so much since then but hey! if they like it---I love it! :)
