Italian Countryside

I love any pictures of an Italian Countryside. I would love to go to Tuscany and paint and that is on the top of my bucket list for sure. I painted this from a picture that I liked. Not sure if I captured the perspective or not. The picture was so beautiful looking down into a valley. It's an odd size--about 7x11 and the paper was already primed and ready for something. So that something was a landscape. I have an opinion about it and my opinion is based on my expectation of the outcome. This turned out differently than my expectation for this piece. I am not saying that I don't like it but it is different from what I tried to paint. I am trying to capture the essence and not every detail. I fight hard to simplify because in a painting giving every detail is not necessary. Tell my left brain that!

I am off this morning to Greenville for a week to see my grand babies! See ya when I get back!

I love this. It has an impressionistic feel that is soothing. Have a wonderful week with your daughter and grandkids!

you did capture the feel of it...and i love that it is an "impression" of the real thing. i like that so much better than a realistic painting. i think, because there is an abstract feel to them which i love.

On my bucket list too. I have relatives over in Sicily that I have never met!

Your colours are fabulous! And yes, I do believe you have captured the essence indeed!

I think you did well. I know what you mean. I can not seem to simplify. I want to do an exact replica and so am always destined to be disappointed in my work. I do not have that expectation in other peoples work so why can't I "get it"?......I do like realism and some of my favourite wild life artists capture wildlife like a photo and I admire that skill, its breathtaking.........so naturally if I compare myself to that I will never be happy............like you I wish I could simplify and be happy

It really is beautiful Martha. I would love to go and paint and just roam the countryside of Tuscany. The buildings and everything there has such character. I'm so glad you mentioned it is difficult for you to not want to add details and that you are working on trying not to be detailed. You are such a talented woman that I admire, so hearing you say that helps me not to be so hard on myself in the area of detail. Thank you!

ENJOY those grandchildren!!

Oh Martha - it's BEAUTIFUL!! I've read the other comments & we all agree that it's beautiful. WHY does it have to look like someone else's work? By changing it just enough, you made it a "Martha Original!"
