Midnight Song
It seems like I wait until the middle of the night to paint these birds. I really don't know why but I am enjoying painting them and creating a mixed media background. I never know exactly how they will turn out. I dropped in Hydrus color for his body. He is singing a song.

Sew Simple
I know, that's a pretty corny title but these color drop hearts were really simple and fun for me today when I just wasn't feeling so well. I think my extreme stress about my evil spammer must have left me tired and listless. Or maybe I am getting sick, but I sure hope not. I have too much to do this week! Anyway, if you happen to be reading this blog and if we have ever communicated by email in the past then you probably got the strange email saying something like "how are you ?" and wanting you to look at some site. I have never had a spammer but I think it happened when I sent out all the email graphics I created for our class reunion this summer. Yahoo was trying to tell me that some emails were suspicious and stupid me just copied them right into Gmail and let them go. Gmail didn't warn me or anything. Makes me want to change my email to a Yahoo account. Oh well, as my daddy always said, "A good deed never goes unpunished."
Hopefully the spammer can't get me anymore. I have deleted all my contacts and changed my password.
it was quite disconcerting. Thank you all who realized that it didn't sound like me and alerted me.
Have a wonderful Memorial Day tomorrow.
Thank you to all the heros who have defended our precious homeland
and paid the ultimate price in your service.
We remember you and will never forget you.

Colorful Thrasher
I think I should call this one a mixed media color drop bird. I sketched him out and started dropping in the color. He got to a point where he might have been a "Trasher Thrasher" but as with the flowers, never judge a little birdie before it's time. You know my motto, "When all else fails, punchanella!" And I could add to that, "script stamps". Anyway, I think he turned out ok although I love the simplicity of this one.

Midnight Bird
Ok, well, here is another midnight painting. He is a color drop bird but with other mixed media backgrounds going on. I actually messed up the sky background area and added acrylic and some stamps. I have still been thinking about this Color Drop Bird class. I have a lots of things are swirling around in my head, CalligraFUN ll, Versa Doodles, birds. I will just have to see if it's enough for a whole class. The leaves and flowers are hand carved stamps.

12:30 AM Quickie Bird
I just couldn't settle down last night so I got up and painted another bird. It took maybe 15 minutes or so. Then I guess I had "scratched the itch" that was keeping me from settling down so then I went on back to bed. I have this book coloring book and I try to sketch the birds out by had without tracing . It is a skill that needs practice so I try to look at something and draw it.

10 Minute Color Drop Bird
Well, I got up my courage and painted a color drop bird. I have always wanted to paint birds and really haven't had much success at all. So I decided to sketch one out from a Dover bird book and flooded in the color and blotted up for a light source as we do in the Color Drop Flower class. He is on a scrap piece of paper and I would have continued more leaves but I ran out of paper. He was fun to do. I think that I will try some more and drop in some Dr. Martins Ph Concentrated watercolors. Then they they will really be bright. I used the sumi-e brush. He was fun and...yes...quick!! You know me...I am into instant gratification!

Flower Happiness!
Happiness is actually what I feel when I paint flowers! I guess because I have such a hard time making them grow outside. I don't know why that is. I water properly, pinch off the deadheads, talk to them, plead and beg with them but to no avail. But I can go inside and paint them and I feel much better!
People are starting to post BEAUTIFUL color drop flowers which are also making me
EXTREMELY HAPPY!!! :))

OH MY!
Do to the overwhelming response to the "Color Drop Flowers" class Gail has had to close registration for a couple of weeks. It has been very frustrating for my students but this was such a totally unexpected thing for Gail at Creative Workshops. With so many people trying to access the videos at once it clogged and overloaded the system and everyone was experiencing buffering and skips and---oh my!
It will all smooth out but right now things are not downloading very fast. Again, oh my! If you have been experiencing this please know that it was so very unexpected and Gail, the admin, is doing all that she can. I have faith in her and she runs an excellent site. Thanks for your patience and hang in there! The class will be back for registration soon! In the mean time I am planning some extra video goodies for my students so stay tuned within the ning site!

Journal Page Lost but now Found
This is the journal page that was lost with the blogger hiccup the other day. I do enjoy the "journey" of these big journal pages. I never really know how they will turn out. And sometimes they don't turn out at all so I have to go to plan B which is--- cover it up with scrapbook paper and start again!

Color Drop Flower Class Giveaway
Hi everyone. I thought I would do a giveaway for the Monday debut of the "Color Drop Flower Class." If you are one of the sweet wonderful people who have already signed up for this class you can sign up again if you want to and give it to a friend. Mr. Random.Org will pick a number on Monday night at 8:00 pm--or just a minute before Dancing with the Stars.
Blogger has been working on the site all morning and I had a post with this giveaway scheduled for this morning but it seems to be lost. It also had a journal page on it and I don't see that it is scheduled anymore so who knows? Blogger said they had been working on all the posts that were temporarily deleted for some reason. So, if Blogger decides to post that lost scheduled post then it's the same giveaway for Monday and I will all up all the posts in the order that they come in. No worries.
I am heading to the Charleston wedding that I addressed the envelopes for so I will see you all on Monday night with the results. Have a great weekend everyone!

Rusty Reds
I think I am addicted to painting these flowers! These flowers were actually a save because they were fairly bright red until I put a green center that spread into the leaves and turned them more of a rust color. I need to remember my own teaching about painting with the neighbors on the color wheel. But actually they turned out ok. I like to pull out some stamps that I rarely use (I have lots of those!) and try it on the piece.

Journal Page in the Big Journal
I always enjoy assembling these journal pages. I tried something new this time and put Golden Absorbent Grounds on areas of the pages so I could paint some watercolor flowers without the thin pages melting away with the water. I love doing these pages because I get to use my stamps. I love stamps. I love the ones that I carve as well as the ones I buy. Some people don't like to use anything but their own carved stamps because they are unique to them, which is great, but I say I like to use all my stamps bought or carved and use them in a unique way.
Below are my guys cooking a Mother's Day dinner for Chauncey's sister, Rachel, his parents and me. They cooked Hot Chicken Salad which was one of my mother's recipes which is extremely involved but EXTREMELY delicious! They did a great job. And I am extremely blessed to have these two great guys in my life.

Two more with backgrounds...
Here are two more with backgrounds. I can't decide which background I like best. They all look good with backgrounds. Yellow is nice too.

Yellow Poppies
I love red poppies but yellow ones are pretty too. I think there might even be orange ones. I love sewing around these paintings. When I offer the Poppy Painting class we will do these. But first, it's good to learn color drop. It will be helpful to have learned that technique before doing this.
I also love distressing them up a little bit in the background. Fun to paint them.

Tiny Tulips
I love painting these color drop flowers. Putting in the background is fun too and it really gives the flowers an added dimension. And sewing around the edges is always fun and I really love the look of it. If you might want it, it is in the etsy shop. My poor old etsy shop has been vacant for so long I decided to fluff it up with some originals.

Poppy Journey
I have been cleaning up and trying to get organized in my regular life. Not that my art life is that organized right now either but in the midst of the cleaning I had to go paint a Poppy. I taped off a white border with painters tape so it looks pretty cool. It's probably 6x10 ish.
I am sticking it in my etsy shop if you might want it. Hopefully it won't be alarmed by the cobwebs in the shop. I haven't had time to restock.

Look who's two!
Can you guess who he loves? Elmo, of course!
We had a wonderful time at the birthday party. Can't believe he is already two.
Macaulay made the cake and I thought she did an excellent job with the fondant and the Elmo image.
It was delicious too!
