All of these oil painting are 6x6. As I said I am trying to do one painting a day. I am having extreme difficulty painting from still life. I do much better when I make it up. I went to Hobby Lobby and bought lots of flowers and vases but a couple of the vase paintings have not been bloggable. I even threw one 10x10 canvas in the trash. The bad thing with oils is that sometimes you can wipe it off but this one was unsalvageable. That the other bad thing with oils---no gessoing over. I am not a quitter so I will trudge on a little while longer. Have a great Monday everyone.
YAY to you for constantly challenging yourself. I just took your class on CC flowers and painted some practice versions which turned out pretty ok and then went for it on a canvass background I had been so pleased with. Hmmmm - well not tossing but must say...you make it look like EASY PEASY...
ReplyDeleteSeems credit cards and I continue our tumultuous relationship. :-)
Obviously I love your work...because I've taken 3 of your classes! I also got frustrated with oil paints taking so long to dry until I bought a book and DVD by Arleta Pech in which she paints with thin layers of oil which dry overnight. She builds up layer after layer with transparent oils and the result is an image that absolutely glows. You probably are familiar with her work, but just in case you aren't I thought I'd send you her website where you can see her work and the books/DVD's she has.
ReplyDeleteOooops......the website is arletapech.com.
ReplyDeleteHi, I really enjoy peeking in and seeing what you are working on...just a note, I have taken oil paintings, sprayed light coats of matte spray, then gesso. Never had a problem with it lifting or anything, just went back over it with more oils. give it shot.
ReplyDeleteHaving never painted with oils, I don't have any idea how they perform. I think you're brave and amazing to attempt it and I'm loving your results. There's such a learning curve with any new medium; it's tempting to give it up if you don't catch on quickly.
ReplyDeleteI love the first pear - it's angularity, the colors and the background - I think it's unusual and great. Keep trying - you obviously have great skills!
Im not a fan of oils, love these especially the yummy orange:O)
