All done!



I think I made the right choice with the grungy white-ish pot. I decided not to show you all the decisions that were rejected for the pot color. Painting is really just a series of problem solving, trial and error, and little sweat along with a little (ok, maybe a lot) of frustration but one thing I have learned about myself, if I just don't give up then usually I can pull it out in the end. So, I can't believe it...I actually painted a 36x36! Maybe I will start to feel like a real painter now.

    I woke up to this, and I have to tell you, I feel a little emotional right now, Martha. This BIG painting, this journey you showed us... It paralleled my big journey these past several days. And now, look! Anyway, this is fantastic! I loved seeing your incredible process...the incredible journey in the life of your BIG painting! (I like the way you think, and how you tell your story!) and I LOVE your flowers and that crackly, delicious vase. Ooh la la. Gorgeous! Now relax and enjoy this weekend!!!

    Happy Spring Martha - and this gorgeous painting is so timely I might add.!! You are so right that artmaking is all about figuring out solutions - that's why making art helps so much with problem solving in other areas of life. Thx so muxh for sharing your process, I thoroughly enjoyed it and you've inspired me to get out two 16x20's for a floral dictyph I've had in my head for awhile, :)

    Ummm... size doesn't matter. It's how you use it that makes you a real painter.

    I have always chastized myself for the size of my work. I have a cousin who's a muralist (latent these days. But nonetheless...) and I always thought that to be a real artist you had to go Cistene big of go home. Then in college I saw how big the Mona Lisa really is. Not even 9x12. No one doubts DaVinci's artistry or professionalism.

    We need to paint our own way. and do as you say; sweat, cry, problem solve and manipulate our mediums to suit oursleves.
