I was looking into one of my many half-done journals and found this girl. She was done in colored pencils first as you can see from the second image but I decided to put some acrylic flesh tone over her face. Suzi Blu uses "Santa's Flesh" by Delta Creamcoat for her Petit Dolls class. I only know this because she mentioned that in her other class I was taking at the time. She also uses Titan Buff. Both are great for mixing flesh tones. I have no idea how she really uses the Santa's Flesh but I have discovered that it is semi-opaque so therefore it makes a wonderful glaze over colored pencils. I like it! By the way, Suzi's class was great and I highly recommend it. The one I took was "The Goddess and the Poet"--of which I am neither! I am thinking about going back and doing the Petit Dolls. I am the perpetual student I guess. Learning and growing
is a good thing, this Martha says!
Oh, and who I meant was Lisa Marie Presley when she was younger. Maybe there is something in the eyes that reminded me of her...maybe. Remember, she had her father's eyes.
I love seeing the transformation.
ReplyDeleteYour first creation was lovely, but the richness of second on is wonderful. I like the addition of the necklace too.
Classes - I am about 5 going and I am so very behind in all of them. I really should sign up for one at a time and complete it before I move on!!
Hi Martha,
ReplyDeleteI like that you included both of these. I love the simplicity of the colored pencil one, and really like the richness of the paint over colored pencil one.
She does remind me of a young Lisa Marie.

I knew you meant Presley right away. Yes it's in the eyes. Both renditions are very pretty and such a grand likeness to the younger Lisa Marie. I am amazed at how you were able to create the background around the pencil drawing. The paint over is so much more vivid too. I do love seeing your creations...
ReplyDeleteMartha, I love what you did....so rich in depth...girlfriend, there's another flower in this one's hair....you have them in your heart, don't you....I too love the necklace, gives her class....
ReplyDeleteI love your work and always look foward to see what you are doing...
Hugs and Blessings,
Butterfly
oh love her eyes, this is a great one, I also love that learning process. Sandi
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to Suzie's new G. & P. II--"Piety and Passion" :) Are you going to take it? It's suppose to start in the middle of March. I'm all caught up with A. Idol. I kind of have a favorite--Alex Lambert--NOT to be confused with Adam! He's the one with the mini mullet and who Ellen called a banana :)
ReplyDeletegorgeous....
ReplyDeletei've never tried the acrylic overlay...but I've done that with watercolours over pencil crayons and i love that effect too!
art is fun isn't it! i look for your blog with my morning cup of coffee...thanks for being there to inspire and share each day!
ciao bella
