Painting the transfer-Misty transfer homework

One of our homework assignments in Misty's class this week was to transfer an image (this was was in Misty's class images) and paint it any way we wanted. Well, I have to say that there is one thing that I am very excited about...the transfer worked! It was a black and white inkjet print (I thought only laser prints would work) with Golden soft gel applied then adhered to watercolor paper. I smoothed it out with a credit card. You can see in the transfered image below that it come out rather pinkish which was really ok. This painted girl went through so many ugly stages that I almost gave up on her. At one point she looked just like Adam Lambert. If you don't know who he is...well...nuff said...
So, I started off with Caran D'ache and acrylic and that looked bad, then moved to just acrylic and that looked worse, then on to shiva....ahhhh...magical shiva! It just smoothes out everything. She doesn't really look like this beautiful girl in the picture but it was a good exercise and I will try more transfered faces. Actually the assignment wasn't to have it look like our transfer anyway.

  2. Hi Martha,

Another lovely girl - thanks for sharing the process. I'd like to try that.

About the Shiva paintstiks, is there a set that has the colors you use? Or did you just order individual colors? I'd like to try them, but don't know what colors would be the best to get first. They are not inexpensive, so a little guidance would be great!

  4. so was this the technique where you rub off the paper backing with water? I could never get that to look right with inkject but yours looks great.

  8. You mean you can really transfer just a printed out picture from an inkjet printer with gel medium? (like golden soft gel?) If she started out looking like Adam Lambert, then you performed a miracle! :)

  9. Way cool! Add me to the list of the curious about which Shiva colors you are using.
And I agree that you have made this woman a bit more appealing with the softness you put in her features.

  10. This is lovely! Thanks for posting the steps too...my ink jet transfers come out the same way and I wondered if I was doing something wrong so this really encourages me.
Today is an art day for me so I am excited to get going!
