This was fun to do, if you don't mind little bits of paper flying everywhere. I transfered a face on to wood and started tearing pieces from magazine pages that I had torn out with the same values. I think it turned out pretty cool looking although I don't know if I would be of the artistic mindset to do alot of these. But I should just try one more though
Wow, Martha! This looks very difficult, but it turned out amazing! I can't wait to see your next one! :D ~Kath
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Martha, do more of these.
ReplyDeleteIt really is wonderful!
This is amazing! You should put her in a frame!
ReplyDeleteI was just blogging around and happened upon your site and noticed I just saw this collage portrait in Misty's class. I am in her class to although I haven't done this collage yet. Yours is very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteMartha great job, Sandi
ReplyDeleteI like this. Doing a study like that is such a good way to study value and all the colors actually in a face. Cool.
ReplyDeletelove it!!! one thing i do when i create like this with little torn pieces of paper is to apply colorbox fluid chalk rubber stamp ink in chestnut brown to all the torn white edges. i use a little brush. it ends up giving the piece a vintage aged look. other times i leave the white edges for contrast and interest like you have!!!
ReplyDeleteMartha, I am in love with this!!!
ReplyDeletewow, this really looks like fun...
ReplyDeleteMartha,
ReplyDeleteI really like this. I have been thinking about trying this ever since I found Elizabeth St. Hilaire Nelson online. I even bought one of her paper paintings.

WOW, this is TOTALLY cool! I wanna come play with you : )
ReplyDeleteThanks Martha!
ReplyDeleteI guess with editing it would make it possible to film me painting, but I don't ever do one from start to finish in one sitting - and they usually turn out so totally different from where I begin. It would probably be very disjointed and hard to follow.
Thank you for all your encouragement my blogging friend!!
Wow this is really cool! Something quite different!!! :0)
ReplyDeletewow!!! this is fantastic!! i'll bet bucky loves all of the little bits of paper that fall to the floor while you're working on this.....hee hee! xoxo, :))

ReplyDeleteand you know what else falls under that category? YOU!
i wanted to thank you profusely for your compliments on my blog...you made my day...
happy drawing
ciao!
Well Martha I think it turned out just great! I think you should do more. You might try looking at my DVD which is an overview of collage and on my blog. I suggest varying your papers, looks like a lot of magazine paper in this, which is fine, but you might consider some hand painted rice papers, maps, art store papers.... a little variety in texture and surface offers a lot of depth. Vicki, thanks for the link!!
